this week serving georgia's 12th district

I’d like to congratulate Georgia’s 83rd Governor, Governor Brian Kemp, who was officially sworn into office on Monday. Keep choppin!

I look forward to working closely with Governor Kemp on behalf of the Peach State to continue to be the number one state in which to do business. I’d also like to thank Governor Nathan Deal for his many years of public service to our great state; you did us all proud!

Thousands of men, women, and children will gather around the nation tomorrow, marking the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade.

As a strong advocate and believer in the word of God, I believe that it is my duty to stand up for those who cannot defend themselves and lend my voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.

For this reason, I was proud to speak on the House floor to encourage my colleagues to bring pro-life policies before Congress for a vote.

I thank all of those who will be marching tomorrow for this important cause.

As my colleagues on the other side of the aisle continually refuse to come to the negotiating table to end this partial government shutdown, I also spoke on the House floor to address the significance of this crisis we are facing at our southern border.

We desperately need more critical resources on our southern border to ensure the safety and security of the American people.

As you may recall, I sent out a border wall survey last week to gather feedback from Georgia-12 constituents about their thoughts on President Trump’s border wall request, and the results are in!

With nearly 7,000 people responding to whether or not they support building the wall, almost 70% of those who answered were in support of President Trump’s proposal. I greatly appreciate your feedback, Georgia-12; this allows me to better serve you in Congress.

President Trump also signed legislation that Congress passed last week guaranteeing back pay to government workers who are furloughed during this partial shutdown as soon as agencies re-open.

My Democratic colleagues must come the negotiating table with the President so we can secure our borders and get federal employees back to work.

Additionally, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced that many Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices will reopen temporarily to assist farmers and ranchers with existing farm loans. FSA offices will be temporarily opened today, January 17, 2019, January 18, 2019, and January 22, 2019.

Staff members will be available at certain FSA offices to help producers with specific services, including; processing payments made on or before December 31, 2018, continuing expiring financing statements, and opening mail to identify priority items.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I hope you will all take a moment to remember this great leader!

Dr. King is truly an icon to be remembered and I look forward to celebrating his life and legacy in Augusta on Monday.

In 2018, my colleagues and I worked hand-in-hand with the Senate and Trump Administration to fulfill our promises and sign a host of impactful legislation into law, including major wins for Georgia's 12th District. I was recently able to recap some of our major accomplishments of 2018 in an op-ed published by the Augusta Chronicle and I'd love for you to take a look! For those who missed last week’s e-Newsletter, as a new addition, I will be highlighting one or more pieces of legislation that I have championed or co-sponsored with one of my colleagues to keep you informed about my work and legislative priorities on behalf of the 12th District during the 116th Congress.

While marking the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade, I would like to highlight H.R. 305, the Sanctity of Human Life Act.

H.R. 305 simply defines that human life begins at conception and was authored by my colleague and fellow Georgian, Congressman Jody Hice (GA-10). I am deeply proud to be an advocate for life and a fighter for the unborn and I will always support legislation that protects unborn children.

I also recently signed onto a letter to President Trump with many of my colleagues that expresses our desire for him to commit to veto any funding bill that weakens existing pro-life protections on taxpayer funding or any other bill that would weaken federal policy on abortion.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒  HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram

Sincerely,
