Commemorating National Police Week
|
National Police Week serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our law enforcement officers and the vital role they play in protecting our communities, our families, and our loved ones. While they face increasing challenges and threats to their safety, as the recent tragedy in Columbia County has shown us, it is more important now than ever to stand with our men and women in blue. That's why House Republicans passed three bills this week to express support for law enforcement officers and agencies nationwide.
H.R. 2240, the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act of 2025: - Requires the Attorney General to assemble reports on violence against law enforcement officers and the effectiveness of programs meant to provide law enforcement with wellness resources and protective equipment so we may comprehensively enhance the safety of police officers.
H.R. 2243, the LEOSA Reform Act: - Broadens the ability of qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms in areas such as national parks, federal facilities open to the public, and state, local, or private property open to the public.
H.R. 2255, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act: - Directs the General Services Administration to allow current and retired federal law enforcement officers to buy their retired service weapons at salvage value.

Driving Down Costs for American Families
|
We said it for years—restoring domestic energy production, eliminating burdensome regulations, and enacting pro-growth policies drive down costs for American families.
It was recently announced that the annual inflation rate hit 2.3% in April, less than expected and the lowest since 2021. House Republicans and President Trump are keeping our promise and delivering much-needed relief.
THE FACTS: - Grocery prices saw their largest decline in nearly five years.
- Gas prices fell for the third month in a row.
- Egg prices saw the largest one-month decline in more than four decades.
- Workers’ real wages are up 1.9%, increasing each of the last three months.
- Prices for airfare, energy, hotels, and used vehicles are all down compared to last year.

This Week's White House Highlight
|
REMINDER: With President Trump back in the White House, we are excited to add a new feature to the newsletter! Each week, I will highlight an executive action, announcement, rulemaking, bill signing, or any other activity from the Trump Administration to keep you well-informed on what's happening in Washington.
President Donald J. Trump and his administration have secured another good deal for the American people — an initial trade deal with China that reduces tariffs, ends retaliation, and sets America on the path for truly free and fair trade.
For too long, unfair trade practices and America’s massive trade deficit with China have fueled the offshoring of American jobs and the decline of our manufacturing sector. In reaching an agreement, the United States and China will each lower tariffs by 115% while retaining an additional 10% tariff. Other U.S. measures will remain in place.
This trade deal is a win for the United States, demonstrating President Trump’s unparalleled expertise in securing deals that benefit the American people.

This Week's Committee Activity
|
Energy and Commerce Committee
Full Committee Markup:
The Energy and Commerce Committee advanced our section of the Budget Reconciliation Text, better known as President Trump's "one big, beautiful bill." Despite over 24 hours of lies, fear-mongering, and misleading claims from my Democratic colleagues, committee Republicans advanced this transformative legislation that will unleash American energy, eliminate green new deal-style mandates, support American innovation, and strengthen and protect Medicaid for the most vulnerable.
The Committee was tasked with saving $880 billion across its vast jurisdiction, which includes energy, environment, telecommunications, and health care:
Communications and Technology: Utilizing wireless spectrum auction authority - The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) spectrum auction authority expired in March 2023.
- Reauthorizing the FCC’s spectrum auction authority for 10 years is estimated to raise tens of billions in revenue to the Treasury, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
Energy and Environment: Rescinding wasteful Biden-Harris spending and unleashing American energy through increased production and new infrastructure - There are billions in Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency funds from the Democrat-passed Inflation Reduction Act, which led to historic levels of government spending on programs that ultimately taxed the American people.
- Rescinding this wasteful spending and streamlining processes for developing energy infrastructure will unleash American energy, help to secure affordable and reliable energy for Americans, and support exporting energy to aid our allies.
- We also support consumer choice, particularly with respect to reversing the former Biden Administration’s electric vehicle mandates.
Health Care: Strengthening, securing, and sustaining Medicaid for those truly in need, while rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse - We protect those who rely on Medicaid the most—individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, children, and seniors—by putting guardrails in place to keep out ineligible beneficiaries and removing deceased beneficiaries who divert resources away from those who actually need care.
- We put Medicaid on a sustainable path for future generations of those in need by repealing expensive Biden-Harris regulations that are costing hundreds of billions of dollars.
- We ensure that Medicaid only pays for American citizens and legal immigrants by strengthening citizenship verifications to determine eligibility, saving tens of billions of dollars.
- We will increase personal accountability to help lift Americans out of poverty by establishing work requirements for able-bodied adults who do not have dependent children or elderly parents in their care.
- We will prohibit Medicaid funds from being spent on transgender services for minors.
