this week serving georgia's 12th district...

Today, we commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day, a day where over 160,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight Nazi Germany.

May we always remember those brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our many liberties and freedoms.

After many months of unprecedented political games, the House of Representatives passed a critical disaster relief package – which President Trump signed into law today – to send long overdue assistance to our Georgia farmers and rural communities who were devastated by the 2017 late season freeze and Hurricane Michael.

House Democrats passed H.R. 6 on the House floor, legislation that would provide NO funding for border security, make millions of illegal immigrants eligible for amnesty, and encourage even more people to pour into our nation illegally.

I’ve said it time and again, the national security crisis at our southern border is increasingly dangerous and alarming as each day passes. However, the Democratic majority is eager to open the floodgates and intensify the problem. Instead of focusing on protecting Americans, they are encouraging criminality at the border. We need true immigration reform - and H.R. 6 was just not it.

As a proud member of the House Energy Action Team, and leader of the “Nuclear Energy” Subgroup, I took to the House floor to speak about how Georgia-12 is leading the way in the expansion of our nation’s nuclear energy resources.

Georgia-12 is home to Plant Vogtle and Plant Hatch, and I recently visited Vogtle in March to witness the placement of the top of the unit 3 containment vessel. I can tell you that construction is full steam ahead, and I look forward to units 3 and 4 coming online as soon as possible.

The Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee, of which I am the Senior Republican, held a hearing on education-related responses and recovery efforts in the wake of natural disasters.

It is imperative that our schools are not forgotten in the aftermath of natural disasters and we must always do everything we can to make the returning of America’s children to school as seamless as possible.

I had great meetings with the Georgia Propane Association and the Home Builders Association of Georgia, just to mention a few.

Thanks for stopping by my office!

I also joined our first round of summer interns for lunch and was able to learn more about each of them and their interest in the legislative process.

We thank them for their hard work on behalf of Georgia’s 12th district!

As a reminder, June Community Office Hours are underway! Throughout the month of June, my staff will be bringing our office closer to you to assist constituents with issues experienced at the federal level.

This week, as the House Energy Action Team (H.E.A.T) focused on nuclear energy, I am highlighting H.R. 2699, the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act, legislation that would affect the spent nuclear fuel currently sitting idle at nuclear sites around the country.

Georgia’s 12th district is home to every nuclear reactor in the state of Georgia at Plant Hatch in Appling County and Plant Vogtle in Burke County – where the first two nuclear reactors being built in thirty years are under construction. With thousands of spent fuel rods being held in spent fuel pools and dry cask storage containers on these sites and others around the country, it is critical that we establish a permanent geological site – like Yucca Mountain – to manage our nuclear waste.

As an original cosponsor of the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act, we are providing a solution to this problem, and I urge Congress to act upon this bill as soon as possible.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒  HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram

Sincerely,
