Congressional Start-up Week Roundtable

Start up

On Tuesday, I participated in a Congressional Start-up Week Roundtable to hear from small business owners and entrepreneurs in the Augusta area. America has always been a nation of trailblazers, but having built my own business from the ground up, I know how difficult the process can be.

That's why one of my top priorities this Congress was reintroducing the bipartisan Startup Act—a bipartisan solution to help connect entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs with the resources that they need to grow a business, create jobs, and strengthen our economy.

I look forward to bringing these valuable insights back to my colleagues on the Education and Workforce Committee as we continue to advance policies that empower job creators and remove regulatory barriers to entrepreneurship.

SoftAct Reception

I enjoyed visiting the Georgia Cyber Center for the SoftAct gathering during TechNet Augusta and had the opportunity to catch up with constituents and many former leaders at Fort Gordon.

Georgia-12 is leading the way in our cyber defense capabilities, and TechNet gives participants the opportunity to network, educate, and explore the intricacies of the cyber domain.

Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center

Charlie Norwood

Also while in Augusta, I visited the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center to receive an update from the Executive Leadership Team about hospital operations and some of the challenges they've been facing.

Our nation's veterans deserve the highest quality care after their service, and I was proud to recently support legislation that fully funds veterans’ healthcare programs, veterans’ benefits, and VA programs.

If you're a veteran and having issues with the VA, please contact one of my district offices for assistance. Contact information can be FOUND HERE.

Ray Hendrix VA Clinic

Statesboro VA

I visited the Ray Hendrix VA Clinic in Statesboro as well where I received a tour of the facility and met the incredible workers who are committed to caring for our veterans. I'm thankful for this dedicated team in Statesboro for showing me around and ensuring our Georgia-12 veterans have access to top-notch care close to home.

Georgia Southern University

GS 1

GS 2

With football season right around the corner, I also enjoyed spending some time with Georgia Southern University President Kyle Marrero and Athletic Director Jared Benko at the newly constructed Anthony P. Tippins Family Training Facility.

Despite the summer heat, I even fired a few snaps to President Marrero! Thanks for having me and best of luck to the Georgia Southern football team this season.

Evans Memorial Hospital

Evans Hospital

In Claxton, I stopped by Evans Memorial Hospital, which offers an exceptional range of medical services to Evans County and surrounding communities.

I received a brief update on the hospital's strategies and challenges and met a few members of the incredible medical staff. As seen in the picture above, this is truly the heart of the community!

Claxton Rotary Club Meeting

Claxton Rotary

Rotary brings together neighbors, friends, and local leaders to help address the issues facing our communities.

I always enjoy providing an update on my work in Washington at Rotary Club meetings throughout Georgia-12. Thank you to Claxton Rotary for the invitation, it's always great to see so many familiar faces!

Direct Selling Association Women's

Entrepreneurship Roundtable

Direct Selling

I hosted a Women's Entrepreneurship Roundtable with the Direct Selling Association where we discussed the importance of flexibility in business and the value of being an independent entrepreneur.

Here in Georgia-12, we have many talented businesswomen that create good-paying jobs and help stimulate our local economy. Thank you for joining me!

Thomson Plastics Inc.

Plastics

I also traveled to Thomson where I received a tour of Thomson Plastics, a leader in large tonnage injection molding in the South East.

As a businessman, I've always enjoyed visiting manufacturing facilities in our district. During these visits, I ask what is hindering their ability to grow the business and hire more people. Nine times out of ten, it's the federal government.

I will continue to work in Congress to reduce bureaucratic red tape that only obstructs economic drivers like Thomson Plastics' ability to do business.

McDuffie County School Construction

school

While in McDuffie County, I stopped by a new school construction site. Unfortunately, the Army Corps of Engineers has slowed progress on construction due to President Biden's burdensome Waters of the U.S. rule—claiming two depressions in the ground are "protected waters."

It is outrageous that construction on an educational facility can be halted by what is essentially a puddle. My Republican colleagues and I will continue to fight this type of unreasonable federal regulation every step of the way.
