Reps. Allen, DeSaulnier introduce the bipartisan Startup Act

Today, Congressmen Rick W. Allen (GA-12) and Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) introduced the Startup Act, bipartisan legislation that would support American entrepreneurs by expanding access to programs that offer training and resources to individuals seeking to start their own business.

The Startup Act would amend the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, inserting language to incorporate entrepreneurial skills development training into the current system.

Furthermore, the bill authorizes the Department of Labor (DOL) to conduct a three-year, multi-state study to review the outcomes of these programs and report its findings to Congress.

Upon introduction, Congressman Allen made the following statement:

“America has always been a nation of trailblazers. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan legislation with Congressman DeSaulnier to connect entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs with the resources that they need to grow a business, create jobs, and strengthen our economy. Having built my own business from the ground up, I know how difficult that process can be. The Startup Act is about removing barriers to entrepreneurship and expanding access to the hands-on training and tools that will help countless people turn their version of the American Dream into a reality.”

Congressman DeSaulnier:

“As a former small business owner, I know firsthand the risks associated with starting your own business and, following the financial toll of the pandemic, it is more critical than ever that we increase access to the resources entrepreneurs need for their businesses to thrive. I am proud to lead this bipartisan bill with Congressman Allen to ensure small businesses can continue to be the engines of our local and national economies.”
