this week serving georgia's 12th district...

March is Women's History Month, so please join me in celebrating the monumental achievements of the many inspiring women throughout our nation's history!

Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats brought a resolution to the House floor to terminate President Trump’s national emergency declaration.

President Trump has made it abundantly clear that effectively securing our border and ensuring the safety and security of our great nation remains paramount, and I stand behind his decision to use his Constitutional authority as President to declare this national emergency. House Democrats have proven once again that they are more concerned with undermining the President of the United States than they are about bringing real solutions to the table to address the national security crisis currently facing our nation.

We also voted on H.R. 8, another Democratic priority that would restrict our Second Amendment rights and could have extreme consequences for gun owners.

While many are quick to say we need more gun control laws, more red tape for law-abiding citizens will not stop the evil acts of a few who are intent on committing a crime. In fact, this legislation would not have prevented any of the recent mass acts of violence where firearms were involved. During my time in Congress, I will continue to stand up for our traditional, Georgia values and work with my colleagues on reasonable solutions that address the root causes of mass violence and do not jeopardize our Constitutional rights.

I also sent out a survey on H.R. 8 to gather feedback from Georgia-12 residents.

I took to the House floor to speak out against H.R. 1, legislation the Democrats have reserved for what they call the For the People Act.

This title could not be further from the truth! Simply put, this legislation increases the size and scope of the federal government and takes power from state legislatures, locally elected officials, and voters by attacking the rights of states to set their own voting qualifications, district lines, and procedures for preserving election integrity.

Additionally, Senate Democrats shamefully blocked a final vote this week on the Born Alive-Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

This legislation is simple and straight forward: if a child is born alive after a failed abortion, that very child should receive the same medical care that every other child would receive. I am so ashamed and disheartened that we have come to a point in this country where Democrats are voting NOT to save the life of a recently born child.

My Republican colleagues and I in the House of Representatives have asked Democrats to bring the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act to the House floor for consideration ELEVEN times now, and every single time, Democrats have said ‘no.’

However, I am very grateful to be working alongside an Administration that places value on the sanctity of life. Last week, President Trump finalized the “Protect Life” Rule, which will stop Title X funding for abortion mills like Planned Parenthood.

While more work remains, this is a significant step in the right direction for the pro-life cause.

The House Education and Labor Committee held a full committee hearing to mark-up H.R. 865, the Rebuild America’s Schools Act, and H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act.

I introduced an amendment to H.R. 865 to prohibit the federal government from denying funds to schools that have decided to arm their teachers or other school personnel. To be clear, this amendment does not require or force any school to allow a firearm into the school if the school decides otherwise. It ensures that the federal government cannot deny a state or school federal funds if they have decided to allow school personnel to be armed. It follows the philosophy laid out in the Every Student Succeeds Act by allowing local leaders to make decisions about how to run their schools.

I also introduced an amendment to H.R. 7 that would direct the Secretary of Labor to study and certify the effects of this legislation on employers’ ability to recruit, hire, promote, and increase the pay of workers, and report back to the Congress within 90 days. At the very least, we should examine the potential consequences of these changes before we let them go into effect.

Unfortunately, both of my amendments were rejected by my Democratic colleagues on the committee.

We also heard from U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary, Sonny Perdue, about the state of the rural economy during a full House Agriculture Committee hearing.

It is always great to welcome a farmer and fellow Georgian to the House Agriculture Committee to discuss some of the important issues facing farm country, such as rural broadband, disaster relief, and commodity prices. Thank you, Secretary Perdue, for all of your work on behalf of rural America.

I had a great meeting with the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, which included many folks who call Georgia-12 home, to discuss some of their legislative priorities during the 116th Congress.

Thanks for stopping by!

Starting today, my staff will be hosting Community Office Hours throughout the district during the month of March to assist Georgia-12 residents who are having issues with a federal agency.

Constituent service has always been a top priority of mine since being elected to represent Georgia's 12th district in Congress. My staff and I stand ready to help with issues you may be experiencing at the federal level, and I am pleased to offer this opportunity for my office to provide constituents direct assistance closer to home. This week, I would like to highlight H.R. 1434, the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act, legislation that I proudly cosponsored to give students and parents the freedom they deserve when making educational decisions.

In President Trump’s recent State of the Union address, he called on Congress to expand school choice for the millions of families and students around the nation, and this legislation is a great jumping off point. If signed into law, the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act would expand students’ access to a variety of education opportunities, allow families to make informed educational decisions that work best for them and their children, and much more.

As a proud school choice supporter and member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I look forward to continuing to expand on these opportunities for parents and children in Georgia and all over the country.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒  HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram
