Rep. Allen Votes to Uphold the Second Amendment

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives voted on H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, which would require universal background checks on all firearm sales or transfers, even temporary transfers of possession, and would require a federally licensed firearm dealer to facilitate. Under current law, background checks are already required on every commercial gun purchase in America.

“While many are quick to say we need more gun control laws, more red tape for law-abiding citizens will not stop the evil acts of a few who are intent on committing a crime,” said Congressman Allen. “In fact, today’s legislation would not have prevented any of the recent mass acts of violence where firearms were involved. During my time in Congress, I will continue to stand up for our traditional, Georgia values and work with my colleagues on reasonable solutions that address the root causes of mass violence and do not jeopardize our Constitutional rights."
