Visiting Mascot Pecan in Glennville
|
Earlier this week, I visited Mascot Pecan Company in Tattnall County, a third-generation family business that has evolved into an integrated shelled pecan and candy processor. Thank you for the tour and for sharing a few of your best-selling snacks!

My Bill to Protect Americans' Retirement Savings Passed the House
|
This week, the House of Representatives passed my bill to safeguard the retirement savings of America's workers, retirees, and families with bipartisan support! While families continue to struggle to afford the basics under this Administration's costly policies, the last thing they need is for their retirement savings to be depleted due to politically motivated mismanagement. Yet the Biden-Harris Administration is empowering financial advisors to invest retirement savings in risky, climate-related ESG funds, hijacking Americans' hard-earned money in favor of their widely unpopular rush-to-green agenda.
I am hopeful that the bipartisan passage of H.R. 5339 will serve as a wake-up call for the Biden-Harris Administration to keep its radical agenda out of Americans' retirement accounts.

Demanding Answers from the Postmaster General on the Processing of Absentee Ballots
|
I also led all Republican Members of the Georgia Delegation in sending a letter to United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, expressing concerns with the Atlanta Regional Processing and Distribution Center's (RPDC) ability to process mail-in absentee ballots for the upcoming election.
The letter reads in part: "We have received many calls from constituents frustrated with the abrupt delay in delivery and receipt of their mail due to processing issues at the Atlanta RPDC...The state of Georgia allows absentee ballots to be requested any time between 78 and 11 calendar days prior to Election Day, and all absentee ballots must arrive at their county election office by Election Day. We want assurances that the USPS will be able to guarantee delivery and return of the absentee ballots in such a short turnaround time of at least 11 days."

Increasing Secret Service Protection for President Trump
|
Following the second heinous attempt on President Trump's life last weekend, the House passed H.R. 9106, the Enhanced Presidential Security Act of 2024, with my strong support.
This bill directs the U.S. Secret Service to use the same standards to determine the number of agents in a protection detail for Presidents, Vice Presidents, and major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.
I appreciate House Republican leadership for bringing forward this bill to ensure the safety of our presidential nominees. I call on my Senate colleagues to pass this bill and send it to President Biden's desk immediately.

Kamala Harris' Continued FAILURE as Border Czar
|
Since the Biden-Harris Administration took office and with Kamala Harris as the Border Czar, there have been over 10 million illegal immigrant encounters and roughly 2 million known gotaways who evaded U.S. Border Patrol. Worsening the already dire situation, this Administration has failed to remove 99.7% of the illegal immigrants released into the United States, making every community a border community.
This week, House Republicans continued our efforts to hold this Administration accountable for their destructive open border policies that continue to wreak havoc on American communities. Legislation passed with my support includes: - H.R. 7909, the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, which makes illegal immigrants who are convicted of, or have admitted to, committing domestic violence or sex offenses able to be deported from the United States. 158 Democrats voted NO.
- H.R. 5717, the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act, which ensures that sanctuary cities, counties, and states that provide benefits to illegal immigrants are ineligible for federal funds to assist such immigrants. 186 Democrats voted NO.

Preserving Consumer Choice in Automobile Purchases
|
Consumer choice is a vital component of our free market economy. However, in an endless obsession with their rush-to-green agenda, the Biden-Harris Administration is seeking to strip away consumer choice in the form of a rule that would effectively mandate that at least two-thirds of all new cars in the United States be electric by 2032.
For many residents of the 12th District, an electric vehicle is impractical given the high cost, lack of charging infrastructure in rural communities, and overall time commitment to get a full charge. I spoke on the House floor in favor of H.J. Res 136 to overturn this rule and restore consumer choice.

Overturning a Harmful Biden-Harris EPA Rule
|
As a businessman, I know we need to foster an environment to encourage economic growth, not hamstring small businesses—especially in such a time of high inflation. That’s why earlier this year, I introduced a Congressional Review resolution of disapproval to nullify a rushed Biden-Harris EPA rule that would revise the current fine particulate matter standards and have disastrous impacts on manufacturers and job creation nationwide.
The impacts of this rule, if implemented, cannot be overstated: it would drive manufacturing and economic development projects out of the United States and deprive communities and workers economic opportunity. This week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced my resolution to overturn this rule, and I am hopeful we will consider it on the House floor before the end of the year.

Fighting for America's Small Businesses
|
It was an honor to be named a 2024 Small Business Guardian by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). As a small business owner with over forty years of experience, I will continue to fight for policies that limit government overreach and allow our small businesses to thrive.

Additional Committee Activity

Energy and Commerce
Full Committee Markup of 15 Bills
Among others, the House Energy and Commerce Committee also advanced legislation to provide the most significant protections and safeguards to date for children online. The Kids Online Safety Act and the Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act are landmark bills that finally heed the calls of parents across the country who have insisted that Congress take action to protect America's children from the threats they are facing online.
Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Hearing:
"Holding the Biden-Harris EPA Accountable for Radical Rush-to-Green Spending"
During this hearing, I pressed Inspector General Sean O'Donnell about the reckless regulatory agenda by the Biden-Harris EPA, especially their shortsighted decision to restrict access to important chemicals used by farmers in the 12th District, such as dicamba.
