Honoring Our Police

This week marks National Police Week – a time to celebrate and honor the men and women in blue. Our police put themselves in harm’s way every day in order to keep us safe, and their heroic work too often goes unnoticed.

I’m proud to support our law enforcement professionals, especially in the 12^th District, and know how committed they are to building and maintaining strong relationships with the communities they serve.

Standing With Israel

The recent rocket attacks launched by Hamas terrorists against innocent Israelis must be unequivocally condemned, and our support for Israel’s right to defend herself must be crystal clear. There is only one democracy in the Middle East, and we must always stand with Israel.

Visiting Fort Gordon

I recently had the opportunity to visit Fort Gordon and receive an update from leadership on the base. We continue to lead in cyber, and I’m so proud of the growth potential and future of our operations – which is looking really bright!

Home Builders Association of Georgia

Thanks to the Home Builders Association of Georgia for inviting me to speak at their Spring Board Meeting. With my background in construction, I know firsthand many of the issues impacting the industry, but it was helpful to hear from folks on the challenges they’re facing.

House Education and Labor Committee

Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee hearing on lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
- Democrats continue to advance H.R. 3, Speaker Pelosi’s radical legislation which would increase our reliance on Chinese medical manufacturing, reduce our capacity for innovation, and neglect people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. We must encourage more innovation and competition – which will lead to lower costs. I’m proud to support H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act, which will do just that.
K-12 Subcommittee hearing on the impact of COVID-19 on students with disabilities.
- The effects of school closures are heightened for students with disabilities, as many special needs children benefit from consistent and attentive ‘in-person’ instruction and services. Kids with special needs need routine, and I know this firsthand as my granddaughter has special needs. It’s time for all schools throughout the country to reopen, and the CDC has made clear it can be done safely.

House Agriculture Committee

Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee Hearing “Title II Conservation Programs: Exploring Climate Smart Practices”
- House Democrats continue to host innumerable briefings, member meetings, hearings, and propose legislation on climate change. During the hearing I highlighted how we must listen to our famers, as they are the best conservationists in the country, instead of imposing top-down, one-size-fits-all mandates.

Glennville Sweet Onion Festival

Georgia’s 12^th District is proud to be home to the famous Vidalia Onion, and I had the honor of serving as Grand Marshal for this year’s Glennville Sweet Onion Festival Parade.

2021 Congressional Art Competition Winners

We had a great turnout for this year’s Congressional Art Competition, with 13 schools participating. I want to thank all the talented students who entered, and congratulate all of the winners. Military Academy Signing of Intent Ceremony

One of the greatest privileges as your Congressman is having the opportunity to nominate qualified young men and women to our nation’s service academies. It was an honor to host a signing of intent ceremony for CSRA students who have accepted an appointment.

Columbia County Chamber Banquet

It was great to join members of the Columbia County Chamber at their 16th Annual Banquet & Business Showcase. I want to congratulate all of the businesses and organizations granted awards this year, and thank all our businesses for serving our community!

Meeting with Association of Community Cancer Centers

I appreciate the Association of Community Cancer Centers, including members from Georgia’s 12^th District, for meeting with me to discuss issues impacting patients and that transition of many patients accessing telehealth services for the first time due to the pandemic.

As we continue to celebrate National Police Week, I want to highlight H.R. 3131, the David Dorn Back the Blue Act, which I’m proud to cosponsor.

This legislation is named in honor of David Dorn, a retired St. Louis Police captain who was killed on June 2, 2020, while protecting a friend’s store during a violent night of rioting in St. Louis. He served for 38 years with the St. Louis Police Department. The bill authorizes $15 billion to fund additional officer hiring and salary increases for state and local law enforcement.
