Inflation surges to 8.5% in March

The latest economic numbers, released earlier this week, show that inflation has risen by 8.5 percent in the past year. This inflation has sent costs rising across the board, and its effects have been devastating for our seniors and lower-income families.

While the president is eager to blame higher prices on the war in Ukraine, make no mistake – President Biden and House Democrats’ reckless, tax-and-spend policies are fueling this historic inflation.

I am working to rein in government spending and prioritize American energy independence to put an end to this crisis and get our nation back on the path to prosperity.

GA-12 Youth Leadership Summit

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of hosting my semi-annual GA-12 Youth Leadership Summit at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

The Youth Leadership Summit brings young people and adults together to talk about the meaning of leadership, offering students a chance to hear the success stories of various Georgians who have distinguished themselves as leaders in our district.

Thank you to the students and educators who participated in the event. We were grateful to have 21 high schools represented at this year’s Youth Leadership Summit.

A special thanks to our great lineup of speakers: local entrepreneur Devalon Young, Georgia Southern men's basketball coach Brian Burg, U.S. Attorney and Brigadier General Bobby Christine, and Golden Harvest Food Bank President & CEO Amy Breitmann.

Letter to HUD on conditions at Bon Air Apartments

I sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) this week requesting the agency launch an investigation into the living conditions at the Bon Air Apartments on Walton Way in Augusta.

As a participant in the federal Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance program, the Bon Air has consistently failed to meet federal standards that ensure residents' health and safety. It’s time for all parties involved in providing safe, affordable housing to step up and address this critical matter.

Standing up for life

For the second year in a row, President Biden proposed a federal budget that excludes the Hyde Amendment – a longstanding provision that protects the sanctity of life by ensuring that no federal tax dollars can be used to fund abortion.

This week, I joined Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) and 124 of my fellow House Republicans in sending a letter to the Biden administration, voicing our opposition to a proposal that would provide for the expansion of abortion-on-demand.

President Biden announces new ATF nominee

This week, President Joe Biden nominated former U.S. Attorney Steve Dettelbach to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Mr. Dettelbach’s nomination will be voted on in the Senate.

President Biden has long sought to take gun rights away from law-abiding Americans.

In my view, no individual who shares the president’s disdain for our great Second Amendment should lead the ATF.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Cookout

On Thursday I attended the 33rd Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Cookout in Glennville to show my support for the outstanding men and women who keep our communities safe.

I will always support our upstanding law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to protect us.

Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition of 2022 deadline is quickly approaching. This contest is open to all high school students (9th – 12th grade) in Georgia’s 12th district.

The winning piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and its student artist will receive an invitation to travel to Washington D.C. to attend the national winners’ reception. All artwork must be submitted by April 20.
