House Passes Language to Address New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam

I have worked for many years in Congress to find a permanent solution regarding the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam and one that works for job creators, municipalities, and our community alike.

Earlier this week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8812, the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA), a biannual bill to address water issues and projects in the United States. The legislation included language to stop the Corps of Engineers' disastrous rock weir plan and clarify Congressional intent to maintain our pool level at 114.5 feet. I was proud to work with Representative Mike Collins (GA-10) to ensure this provision was included in the final bill. This is a big win for the residents of the CSRA!

Establishing a Task Force to Investigate the Assassination Attempt on President Trump

Following the attempt on President Trump's life two weeks ago, I am as appalled as you are about the lapses in security that allowed the shooter to commit this horrific act.

Earlier this week, U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned, but accountability does not stop there. The House unanimously passed legislation to establish a bipartisan Task Force to conduct a full investigation into the inexcusable security failures. The Task Force will be empowered with all investigative authority of the House of Representatives, including subpoena authority.

The goal of the Task Force will be threefold:

To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination
To ensure accountability
To prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again

We will not stop until the American people get the answers they deserve.

Attending the Joint Meeting of Congress with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu

I was honored to attend a Joint Meeting of Congress to hear from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, and Israel has every right to defend itself.

During his impactful address, Prime Minister Netanyahu said, "our enemies are your enemies. Our fight is your fight. And our victory will be your victory." We will continue to stand with our ally Israel in the face of evil.

Condemning Border Czar Kamala Harris

The House also passed H. Res. 1371 with my support, which condemns Joe Biden’s open borders czar Kamala Harris for failing to secure our Northern and Southern Borders. While the media attempts to distance Vice President Harris from her role as Biden's border czar, House Republicans and the American people know the truth.

Since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office:

There have been OVER 9.9 MILLION illegal immigrant encounters nationwide.
There have been OVER 8.1 MILLION illegal immigrant encounters at our Southern Border.
There have been roughly 2 million known gotaways who evaded U.S. Border Patrol.
The Biden-Harris Administration has failed to remove 99.7% of the illegal immigrants released into the United States.
There have been more known gotaways than in the previous decade combined.

This administration owns the worst border crisis our nation has ever endured.

Telephone Town Hall Recap

I held a Telephone Town Hall earlier this week to answer questions from residents across Georgia’s 12th District. Nearly 2,500 constituents joined Monday’s call where I provided updates on numerous pieces of legislation that will protect America’s retirees and savers, unleash America’s nuclear energy capabilities, ensure only Americans can vote in American elections, improve the quality of life for our servicemembers, and much more.

“The Fiscal Year 2025 Nuclear Regulatory Commission Budget”

Nuclear energy is critical for our energy security here in the United States as it is affordable, reliable, and clean with baseload capacity. Plant Vogtle is home to Nuclear Units 3 and 4, the first new units built in the United States in over three decades. During this hearing, I discussed legislation I introduced that was recently signed into law—the Nuclear Licensing Efficiency Act—and asked about the timeline for implementing the provisions included in this critical legislation.

“The Fiscal Year 2025 Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Budget”

Ensuring reliable and affordable energy is critical to the mission of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. During this hearing, I asked our witnesses about the EPA's slew of harmful regulations that will result in reliable sources of energy being pushed off the grid and how this will impact the state of Georgia.
