Rep. Allen's Statement on Farm Bill Markup

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen issued the following statement after he and his colleagues concluded the markup process and passed the 2018 Farm Bill, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, out of the House Agriculture Committee. Farm bill reauthorization only occurs every five years and the House Agriculture Committee introduced this legislation last week.

“With today’s markup completion and passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, my colleagues and I on the House Agriculture Committee are now one step closer to providing our farming families across America with the relief that they need and deserve. Over the last five years, our farmers have endured a drastic decline in net farm income, and it’s past time that Congress act to address these economic hardships. The bill we passed today does just that – it offers solutions to those challenges in a way that works for rural America and allows our farmers to continue providing the safest, most abundant and affordable food supply in the world.

As a small businessman and job creator, the greatest joy of my life has been affording others with the opportunity to provide for their family, community and nation through gainful employment. With over six million job openings in this country, this bill also makes great strides in getting America back to work. It provides those who are currently on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program with educational, training, and career opportunities to achieve the American dream. I look forward to bringing this legislation to the House floor for debate and a full vote by the House of Representatives, and rest assured that I will continue to support rural America and the farmers of this great nation who provide so much for us all.”
