U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5515, the Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) today by a bipartisan vote of 351-66. The NDAA is an annual piece of legislation that authorizes defense spending and sets priorities for the U.S. military. “It is Congress’ constitutional obligation to provide for the common defense, and with today’s passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, we have done our duty in the House of Representatives to fund our troops, keep America safe and restore our military readiness. H.R 5515 authorizes $700 billion in defense spending for the upcoming fiscal year and sets bold priorities for our military – including replacing equipment, rebuilding infrastructure, and the largest pay raise for our troops in over nine years. Specific to Georgia-12, this important legislation authorizes $99 million in military construction funds for a Cyber Instructional Facility at Fort Gordon, furthering the move of U.S. Army Cyber Command to Georgia. It also authorizes about $1.5 billion in funds for nuclear material management, environmental cleanup, and construction at the Savannah River Site. I strongly believe that the annual National Defense Authorization Act is one of the most important votes I take in Congress each year.
