Rep. Rick Allen Visits Fort Gordon for Gate 6 Groundbreaking Ceremony

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen visited and spoke at Fort Gordon today for the Gate 6 groundbreaking ceremony. With the relocation of the U.S. Army Cyber Command to Fort Gordon, personnel at the base continues to increase and Gate 6 will accommodate and alleviate heavy traffic, especially for those commuting to the Whitelaw Facility. Congressman Allen’s remarks as prepared for the ceremony can be found below:

“Good morning! As some of you may know, I am Congressman Rick Allen and I have the great honor of representing Georgia’s 12 district, which includes right here at Fort Gordon.

I am excited to be here today to take part in this ceremonial groundbreaking. Let me tell you a funny story! On my first visit to Fort Gordon as Congressman of Georgia’s 12th district in 2015, I was late to my first meeting because I was held up when my party entered Gate 1. I told the Cyber Center of Excellence and the Fort Gordon Command teams then that I would make it a priority of mine to help them get a new gate and alleviate the traffic, and I am happy that in about two years from now that will come to pass.

Opening this new gate will offer many benefits to the men and women who come to Fort Gordon every day to faithfully defend our national security. This new gate will not only provide quicker access on and off Fort Gordon and decrease traffic congestion around the other gates, but it will help enhance the security of everything inside the fence line.

It is our responsibility to ensure the security and safety of everyone who comes to Fort Gordon and those driving outside of it. Opening this new gate and all the new construction on and around Fort Gordon has created a significant amount of jobs in the area and has boosted our local economy, and I thank you all for the hard work, dedication, and effort that went into this tremendous achievement. I’m just proud to be able to do my part to authorize and appropriate the hundreds of millions of dollars of funding to help facilitate the move of U.S. Army Cyber Command to Fort Gordon.

I would also like to echo what Governor Deal said about the educational partnerships between Fort Gordon and local colleges and universities. As a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, I believe a quality education is vital to the success and security of our nation and I think sharing educational assets is one great way to achieve this.

If I can ever assist you at the federal level, please do not hesitate to contact my office. We are here to help and I hope you will let us be a resource for you. Thank you again for having me here today, and I look forward to the continued growth here at Fort Gordon.”
