Rep. Rick Allen Votes to Cut Wasteful Government Spending
Washington,
June 8, 2018
U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3, the Spending Cuts to Expired and Unnecessary Programs Act, a rescission package proposed by President Donald Trump to cut nearly $15 billion dollars in wasteful government spending. “Working my way through college, I learned the value of a dollar, and as a businessman and family man, I learned the importance of balancing a budget. For too many politicians in Washington, these are not lessons to live by, but rather lessons to be ignored. But last night, my colleagues and I in the House of Representatives voted to address Washington’s out-of-control spending habits and rein in our ever growing national debt. The rescission package proposed by President Trump cuts funding to government programs that oftentimes goes unspent. With our economy growing, unemployment declining, and over 6 million jobs available in America today, we have an obligation to ensure that our children and grandchildren have the same, if not a greater opportunity than generations before to experience the American dream. Leaving an insurmountable national debt in their hands makes that nearly impossible and is simply unacceptable. I thank President Trump and my fellow members of the House for helping restore fiscal sanity to Washington and I will continue to urge my colleagues in the Senate to act swiftly in passing H.R. 3.” The Spending Cuts to Expired and Unnecessary Programs Act passed in the House of Representatives last night by a vote of 210-206. ### |
