Rep. Allen Applauds President Trump’s Proposal to Merge the Education and Labor Departments

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) released the following statement after President Donald Trump recommended merging the Department of Education and the Department of Labor as an overall reorganization of the federal government.

“President Trump’s proposal to reorganize the executive branch and merge the Departments of Education and Labor clearly underscores the correlation between education and workforce development, a correlation I have been a strong advocate for during my time in Congress. To ensure that we have the workforce we need, the education community and business community must be on the same page. As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I fully support the President’s decision to make this significant change.

As we near the six month anniversary of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act being signed into law, we are seeing small business optimism at an all-time high, increased pay checks for hard working Americans and for the first time ever, more job openings than job seekers. But with this economic success comes a more desperate need for a qualified workforce. We have a responsibility to educate our nation’s youth to ensure that they are ready to fill the jobs of today and tomorrow. I applaud President Trump’s vision for these departments and I hope to see this proposal become a reality in the near future.”
