House Sends Career and Technical Education Legislation to the President’s Desk

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) issued the following statement after the House passed the Senate-amended version of H.R. 2353, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, today. The bill will now go to the President’s desk for signature. Congressman Allen, who sits on the House Education and Workforce Committee, the committee of jurisdiction, played an integral role in drafting, marking up and passing today’s legislation.

“In the construction industry, I spent forty years talking to our young people, elementary and high school students, sparking their interest in the skilled trades early. As we all know, a four-year degree is not the right fit for everyone—and oftentimes our skilled and technical jobs are among the most in-demand and high-paying in the workforce. It is time to change the narrative—and signing the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act into law will help bridge the gap between the business and education communities.

If you talk to most small businesses in our community, one of their top challenges is workforce. Thanks to tax reform and our continued efforts to remove burdensome red tape on our job creators, our economy is booming, and jobs are being created every day. With this opportunity comes a more significant workforce challenge, and I made sure during the drafting process that this legislation would bring business leaders to the table to create career and technical programs for in demand jobs in our hometowns. The American Dream is right there for the taking—and when signed into law, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act will help solidify the American Dream for generations to come.”

Congressman Allen also spoke on the House floor today in support of H.R. 2353.
