Rep. Rick Allen Continues Efforts to Stop Iran DealSupports Legislation Declaring President Not in Compliance with Law in Failing to Turn Over Secret Iran Side Deals
Washington,
September 10, 2015
U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) today continued his work to stop President Obama’s dangerous nuclear deal with Iran by supporting House passage of H. Res. 411. This legislation states President Obama has not complied with the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, passed by Congress and signed by the President this year, requiring the President to submit to Congress the text of any potential agreement and all related materials prior to a 60-day Congressional review period. Last month, news reports surfaced revealing side agreements between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). One of these side deals reportedly allows Iran to use its own inspectors to investigate a site of suspected nuclear activities. To date, the President has not provided information about these side deals to Congress. H. Res. 411 establishes that Congress must be provided with all agreement materials for the 60-day Congressional review period to begin, as required by federal law. Congressman Allen supported the measure and released the following statement: “From the start, it has been clear Iran is not a trustworthy negotiator, and the secret arrangements between Iran and the IAEA are one of the many reasons this agreement is a disastrous and dangerous deal. I supported the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act to ensure Congress would have the opportunity to fully review this deal and vote on it. The American people deserve to know all the facts about this agreement, and the President has not produced them. I am committed to using every tool to keep this bad deal from moving forward and will continue to fight to stop it.” Tomorrow, the House is also expected to vote both on the Iran agreement directly and on legislation that would suspend the President’s ability to lift sanctions imposed on Iran. Allen spoke on the House floor today calling on Congress to stop the President’s deal and stressing the agreement’s serious consequences for our nation, Israel, and international security.
