City Ink: Allen wants residents to speak out about river
Augusta Chronicle,
February 23, 2019
In many cases when people get mad at the federal government, they threaten to call their congressman. In the case of Augusta versus the U.S. Corps of Engineers, your congressman is telling you to call the government. Twelfth District Republican U.S. Rep. Rick Allen says Augusta can’t lose control of the river because of the flooding and erosion that would occur under the Corps’ plan to tear down the New Savannah River Bluff Lock and Dam. And people need to let the Corps know that during the public comment period now underway. “The bottom line is the government is here to serve the people, and the people’s will is we have to maintain that pool,” he said. “The community wants that pool maintained.” Allen asks that you contact the Corps, and information is available at balancingthebasin.armylive.dodlive.mil. “There are four options,” he said. “Option 1.1 maintains the dam with the lock being used as a fish ladder.” By Sylvia Cooper |
