ICYMI: Congressman Allen Holds Telephone Town Hall
Washington,
March 13, 2019
Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) held a telephone town hall last night to answer questions from residents of Georgia's 12th District. Congressman Allen gave an update on Women’s History Month and President Trump’s efforts to empower women around the world, some of the harmful legislation that Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are pushing under a new majority in the House, his work on the House Education and Labor Committee, efforts to protect the sanctity of life, and much more. For those who were unable to participate in the call, here are some of the highlights: Renee from Lyons asked about work being done on behalf of Georgia teachers: Congressman Allen: “As you may know, Governor Kemp and the state legislature have just announced a substantial increase…for teachers’ salaries [in Georgia]. We’re a growing state, we need to have more teachers [to go] with the number of jobs being created in this country. We have the best economy in the world, we have 7.4 million [available] jobs out there, and I tell young people today that I have never seen opportunities like this in my lifetime.” Teresa from Sylvania asked about enforcing our immigration laws: Congressman Allen: “You nailed it! …We have enough laws on the books, let’s get the job done here, let’s protect the American people – which should priority number one. I couldn’t agree with you more. We have drugs pouring in over that border and through our ports, and for the life of me; I cannot understand why we have people who resist this who are members of Congress…Thank you so much for that question.” Robert from Douglas asked about Congressional action being taken to end the practice of “spoofing.” Congressman Allen: “Congress passed a law that would help stop the ‘spoofing’ calls last year and we have to stop the fraudulent calls [as well]. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has told us that they are working on this law right now and you’re not the first to [bring this to our attention]…this has to be fixed because it is really a nuisance, and we will get to work on that.” For those who may be unaware, the term “spoofing” refers to the malicious practice of falsifying telephone numbers through caller ID in an effort to steal sensitive information. Linda from Sylvania asked about President Trump’s proposed southern border wall: Congressman Allen: “You watch the news and you have seen the caravans, and it has been much different under former Presidents. [We are seeing] whole families coming in. Before, it was just folks who wanted to find work…and then go back home. We have a totally different situation right now. The way I see it – this was one of the President’s [promises] that got him elected. In other words, people are sick and tired of us not enforcing the laws already on the books and they are sick and tired of people coming here illegally and demanding the services that we have all worked for for generations. “We have the most abundant immigration system in the world. We take in about one million legal residents a year. That is the most generous in the world, yet we have this problem… Bottom line, this was one of President Trump’s promises, and every time I talk to him he says, ‘Congressman – promises made, promises kept.’ The Democrats do not want him to fulfill those promises; it is just that simple… The President is responsible for national security and this border is a security problem.” If you would like to sign up for the next telephone town hall, please sign up here.
