Congressmen Allen and Wilson to Hold Joint Press Conference on Lock and Dam

U.S. Congressmen Rick W. Allen (R-GA-12) and Joe Wilson (R-SC-02) announced today that they would be holding a press conference on Thursday, March 21, 2019 to encourage members of the community to attend the public comment hearing, hosted by the cities of Augusta and North Augusta, on the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam. The hearing will be held at the Augusta Commission Chamber on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

“Simply put, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ recommended plan to replace the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam is unacceptable. As we saw during the Corps' simulation last month, their desired plan would result in extreme consequences for water users, members of the community, and the entire CSRA,” said Congressman Allen. "Throughout this process, I have been passionately fighting this plan and advocating for a solution that does not negatively impact our community. I strongly encourage members of the CSRA to attend Thursday’s public hearing to voice your concerns about the Corps’ recommended plan to replace the Lock and Dam.”

Congressman Joe Wilson said the following:

“It is disappointing that the Army Corps of Engineers would interpret the language of the WIIN Act to hurt our riverfront communities. The effects of the drawdown were disgraceful and the pool must be maintained at 114.5 feet. I urge everyone to submit comment to the Corps and attend the hearing hosted by the cities of Augusta and North Augusta on Thursday March 21, 2019 from 5-7 p.m.”
