Rep. Rick Allen Votes To Hold Iran Accountable

WASHINGTON, DC--U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) today voted in favor of H.R. 3662, the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act. This legislation prevents sanctions from being lifted from banks and individuals who are connected to terrorism or Iran’s weapons development program. H.R. 3662 passed the House by a vote of 246-181.

“Iran has continually demonstrated they cannot be trusted. In December, Iran made headlines by conducting two ballistic missile tests—already violating the deal that the President forced on the American people earlier this Congress.  This is the same Iran that funnels money to Hezbollah to carry out terrorist attacks, is the world’s leading State Sponsor of Terrorism and awards medals for the capture of U.S. soldiers. Yet, as Iran continues down this destructive path, the Administration has remained silent.

We do not need to be rewarding bad actors nor should we be sitting on our hands. How many times does Iran have to violate this deal or denounce America before this Administration will reverse its course? In the interest of national security and in the interest of our ally Israel, sanctions are absolutely necessary. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to immediately take up this legislation that holds Iran accountable.”

H.R. 3662, the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act:

  • Enhances Congressional oversight and ties the hands of the Administration on their ability to implement the Iran Deal

  • Ensures that the Obama Administration cannot lift sanctions against individuals or banks that support Iranian weapons development or those involved in carrying out acts of  terrorism
