Rep. Allen Announces Changes to Congressional Art Competition

Today, U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) announced changes to the 2020 High School Congressional Art Competition due to the coronavirus outbreak. Congressman Allen has asked students and teachers to submit high resolution photos of any art that they would like to enter into the competition to his office via email. He has also extended the deadline for submissions to Friday, May 15, 2020.

“While there is a lot of uncertainty due to the coronavirus, one thing remains: The Congressional Art Competition will continue to provide high school students in Georgia’s 12th District with the opportunity to display their art in the U.S. Capitol,” said Congressman Allen. “My hope is that by modifying submission requirements and extending the deadline, even more students will participate in this special tradition.”

The judges will view the art digitally and will name the top four submissions. There will also be a people’s choice award, and the public will be able to view all of this year’s submissions on Congressman Allen’s Facebook page. The 1st place winner’s artwork will be shipped to Washington, D.C., where it will remain on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside the 1st place artwork from every congressional district in the country.

Students who would like to participate in the competition should email their high resolution photos and necessary attachments to Christine.Rhodes@mail.house.gov no later than May 15th.
