Rep. Allen Offers Amendments to First Fiscal Year 2021 Spending Package

This week, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) offered amendments to H.R. 7608, a Fiscal Year 2021 minibus that provides funding for State and Foreign Operations, Agriculture, Rural Development, Interior, Environment, Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs. Congressman Allen’s amendments, which aimed to curb government overspending by cutting 5 percent to the State and Foreign Operations and Interior and Environment divisions, were rejected by House Democrats. The House ultimately passed H.R. 7608 by 224 to 189.

“Once again, Congress passed an enormous four-bill, 689-page spending package that totals $219.6 billion plus another $37.5 billion in ‘emergency’ spending,” said Congressman Allen. “The package was produced within the last few weeks, so how can the American people possibly have time to learn where their tax dollars are going?”

“I offered two simple amendments to cut spending by a modest 5 percent in both the State and Foreign Operations and Interior and Environment divisions. Even with my proposed cuts, Congress would spend billions over the budget agreement. I’m disappointed that some of my colleagues not only refuse to address our national debt crisis, but they can’t even stick to the budget agreement that was agreed to! If businesses did this in the real world, they would no longer be in business. There is no way in good conscience I could support a bill that will only further burden our children and grandchildren who will have to clean up our fiscal mess.”
