Rep. Rick Allen Hosts Service Academy Day for Georgia-12 Students

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) announced he is hosting a Service Academy Day for Georgia-12 students in grades 8th - 12th, on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Augusta University’s Summerville Campus from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This event is designed to provide students with information about our nation’s Military Service Academies and the educational and career opportunities they provide. There will be representatives from each academy present. The five Service Academies are: the United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, United States Merchant Marines Academy, and United States Coast Guard Academy.

It is a privilege to be able to nominate outstanding young folks from Georgia’s 12th district to attend our nation’s military service academies,” said Congressman Allen. “These institutions offer those interested in serving our country a first class education and unique opportunities for students to gain knowledge, tools and leadership skills that prepare them both for military and civilian life. I look forward to meeting students with a passion for selfless service.”

The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. To be eligible, the applicant must be 17 years of age as of July 1, in the year of admission to a service academy. The applicant must not have passed his or her 23rd birthday.
