Rep. Allen Statement on Biden's Build Back Broke Act

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) today released the following statement on House Democrats’ passage of Biden’s “Build Back Better” Act:

“The so-called ‘Build Back Better Act’ will destroy our economy as we know it. If you think rising prices at the gas pump and empty shelves in the grocery store are bad now, you better hope the Senate stops this bill in its tracks. It is the most socialist piece of legislation and the biggest expansion of government in our lifetime, and enacting it will only make our nation’s many ongoing crises worse.

“This process has been a slap in the face to every American taxpayer. This 2,000+ page bill will raise taxes, radically expand the IRS's access to Americans’ bank accounts, and rampantly spend taxpayer dollars -- and it was crafted behind closed doors with no bipartisan input.

“I urge my Senate colleagues to stand strong and oppose this trillion dollar tax and spend spree that will bankrupt our nation and burden our future generations with insurmountable debt.”

Background:

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the bill will add $367 billion to the deficit over the next decade. The “Build Back Better” Act:

  • Expands IRS authorities to access bank account information on the vast majority of Americans to collect money to pay for the bill– not just those believed to have committed tax fraud.
  • Allows taxpayer-funded abortions by excluding the long-standing Hyde Amendment.
  • Perpetuates labor shortages by continuing welfare benefits for able bodied adults without work requirements - at a time when there are over 10.4 million job openings.
  • Threatens the viability of smaller, private child care providers, such as churches and community centers, from participating in child care programs due to new federal mandates.
  • Expands the worst parts Obamacare.
  • Prioritizes Green New Deal initiatives by giving out tax credits to the wealthy who can afford to purchase big ticket items, such as electric vehicles.
  • Imposes over $400 billion in small business tax hikes.
  • Impedes domestic energy and mineral production, increasing our dependencies on resources supplied by OPEC, Russia and China.
  • Includes a tax on natural gas, raising the costs of utility bills and placing 90,000 jobs at risk.
  • Increases corporate taxes by $800 billion, where multiple analyses have found that a sizable portion of the increase will fall on workers and lead to higher prices.
