Georgia’s Allen blasts Biden Administration about rule change for independent contractors

Georgia Congressman Rick Allen (R-GA-12) went to the House Floor this week and blasted the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) over a proposed rule change for independent contractors. Efforts by the Biden administration would reclassify independent contractors as traditional employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act by redefining the term “employee” to also include independent contractors such as entrepreneurs and gig economy workers.

The new plan by the Biden Administration would “restrict workers’ freedoms,” Allen said, adding that under this rule change, millions of self-employed Americans would lose the flexibility and protections which they presently enjoy – including the freedom to set their own hours and choose their work locations.
