THE HEAT REPORT

Energy

The Latest:

This past week, President Biden announced an upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia to beg them to increase oil production as gas prices reached record-high levels in America and domestic energy production remains inhibited by the President’s anti-American energy agenda.

The hypocrisy of this move cannot be overstated – President Biden, who has done everything he can to shut down U.S. energy production, is flying over 5,000 miles to Saudi Arabia on Air Force One to ask dictators to bail him out of the mess he has created. Imagine the carbon footprint of that trip.

Now, even European nations like Germany are restarting coal plants – despite a pledge to end coal generation by 2030 – to offset their dependence on Russian oil and gas.

Instead of going to Saudi Arabia, President Biden could ease the pain for American households and fill the void for European countries by tapping into the vast energy resources we have in the United States, where oil is produced cleaner and more efficiently than countries like Saudi Arabia.

It’s time for President Biden to stop blaming America’s energy producers for his self-created energy crisis, accept responsibility for his failed energy policies, and unleash American energy to ease the pain hardworking families are feeling at the gas pump.

This Week’s HEAT Member Highlights:

At last week's leadership press conference, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) slammed President Biden for traveling to Saudi Arabia to beg OPEC countries for oil instead of turning to American energy producers. Whip Scalise also urged Democrats to work with Republicans to help families who are being forced to choose between feeding their families and filling up their gas tanks.                                                                                                                                                  In a speech on the House Floor, HEAT Co-Chair Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) urged Democrats to allow the American Energy Independence from Russia Act to come to the floor for a vote as hardworking Americans face one of the worst energy crises in the nation's history. This legislation would unleash American energy production by approving the Keystone XL pipeline, unleashing U.S. liquefied natural gas exports to boost natural gas production, restarting oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters, and protecting energy and mineral development from attacks by the Biden Administration.
HEAT Co-Chair Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) introduced a discharge petition to bring H.R. 575, the Promoting Cross-border Energy Infrastructure Act, to a vote on the House Floor. This legislation would establish transparent, reliable procedures to provide regulatory certainty and enable the United States to further expand the mutually beneficial energy relationship with Canada and Mexico.                                                                                                                                                                Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) and Representative August Pfluger (R-Texas) introduced the Critical Minerals Classification Act to secure a domestic supply of critical minerals.
Representative Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) introduced the Hydrogen Permitting Simplification Act to cut bureaucratic red tape and streamline the hydrogen permitting process for federal hydrogen programs if the programs utilize zero-carbon emission sources.                                                                                                                      At a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing on energy security, Representative August Pfluger (R-Texas) pressed President Biden’s top energy advisors and demanded answers from the Department of Energy on the lack of an energy security plan and hostile actions towards reliable energy during a global energy crisis.                                                                                                                            In a speech on the House Floor, Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.) condemnedDemocrats’ misplaced priorities when Americans are suffering with record inflation and high gas prices.                                                                                                                                                  Representative Greg Pence (R-Ind.) led the Indiana Republican Delegation in a letter calling on the Biden Administration to secure the nation's energy supply and prevent potential summer blackouts by reversing course on its anti-American energy agenda. Rep. Pence also penned an op-ed for FoxNews.com laying out the consequences of President Biden's disastrous policies that have caused inflation to skyrocket.

Representative John Joyce (R-Pa.) gave a speech on the House Floor highlighting how rising energy costs are impacting residents in his district.

Representative Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) introduced legislation to grant land users leeway and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) flexibility when dealing with endangered species listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This legislation will implement commonsense reforms to the ESA to both protect wildlife and make it easier to build infrastructure, permit electricity transmission, mine for resources needed for everyday life, and properly manage forests. Rep. Stauber also spoke on the House Floor to demand a vote on legislation to unleash the full potential of American energy and the American workforce.

Representative Bob Latta (R-Ohio) joined Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and 19 of their Republican colleagues in urging President Biden to reverse course on exempting China and other Southeast Asian countries from tariffs on solar panels.

Representative Rick Allen (R-Ga.) highlighted the need to be energy independent, pointing out the failures of the Biden Administration on energy policy, and shining light on bills that Republicans have introduced to regain energy dominance.
