Rep. Allen shares new developments from Bon Air apartments Augusta GA WFXG 8/3/2022 8:03:20 AM: ...you hear thunder. at one point -- this was the place to be in augusta. but now, the future remains uncertain for the bon air apartments. previously -- people who live there shared concerns with us about their living conditions. congressman rick allen sent a letter to hud demanding actionciting our investigation. nowwe have the latest response. fox54's abby bradshaw first broke this story -- now she brings us the latest inspection results -- and what comes next for bon air apartments. a two page letter shedding light on what you can't see from these white walls(exterior shot). hud completed an inspection june 14. the property received a failing score of 55c. according to the hud response17 points were deducted by an inspector for problems on the outside of the building. district commissioner catherine smith mcknight saysits unacceptable. "where i come from, that is a big fat f. failure. unacceptable. it does not need to be tolerated. you know, the days of shape up ship out, i think they've had uh, plenty of time, and i just don't see anything being done." redwood housing will appeal the score. and multifamily staff will require corrective action. since fox54's last visitredwood says it has installed 110 security cameras and a swipe card system. butitems still needing attentiona/clong-term restoration of exteriorand roaches. redwood says these remaining issues will be addressed. meantimein the hud responseredwood claims it will invest more money if the low income housing tax credits don't come through. it's a competitive program. which means that funding is not guaranteed. if its awardedrenovation could begin in 2023. the letter also indicates redwood "has no plans to locate other investors or sell the property." in responsecongressman allen says, quote, "we are grateful to hud for its responsiveness as we work together to ensure the residents of our district have access to safe and secure housing." and...commissioner catherine smith mcknight... mcknight // "the proof is in the pudding. look at the score. look at what hudlook what's come back!" that was abby bradshaw reporting. later this year -- a management and occupancy review is scheduled. hud says last year... the property got an above average score. happening today -- flags will fly at half staff in connecticut to honor seargant first class michael clark -- the us army reservist killed in a lightning strike at fort gordon. ... |
