Rep. Allen Champions Legislation to Honor Late Senator Johnny Isakson

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) voted to pass S. 4359, the Senator Johnny Isakson VA Regional Office Act, which would formally rename the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Regional Office in Atlanta after the late Senator.

Congressman Allen co-led the bipartisan House companion bill, H.R. 8350, alongside Democratic Rep. Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02). Prior to the vote, Congressman Allen spoke in support of the bill on the House Floor.

Upon the bill’s passage, Congressman Allen made the following statement:

“Senator Isakson was a great friend and a dedicated public servant. Throughout his life, he distinguished himself as a man of character with an unmatched dedication to the people of Georgia, and I was proud to co-lead this effort to dedicate the VA’s Regional Office in Atlanta as a living monument to his tireless work in advancing policies that benefit our nation’s veterans.”

Georgia’s Congressional Delegation wrote a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees this summer, requesting their consideration and support for the legislation.

Congress also passed a bill this week to rename the VA Medical Center in Atlanta after the late Senator Max Cleland. Congressman Allen co-sponsored its companion legislation in the House, H.R. 6244 and voted in favor of the bill.
