Rep. Allen votes to protect abortion survivors, denounces political attacks

Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) voted to uphold critical protections for the survivors of abortion procedures and condemn the political violence perpetrated by far-left groups following the Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

H.R. 26, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, would explicitly define any infant who survives an attempted abortion as a ‘legal person’, entitled to the same protections under federal law afforded to a newborn.

The bill would require medical providers to administer the same standard of care to these children as anyone else seeking medical treatment and establishes criminal penalties for anyone who intentionally kills a child that is born alive.

Upon the bill’s passage, Congressman Allen made the following statement:

“There is no right more fundamental than the right to life. There should be absolutely no debate over whether the innocent survivors of abortion deserve that inalienable right or protection.

“Last Congress, I stood with every other House Republican in signing onto a discharge petition to bring this bill to the Floor, but there wasn’t a single Democrat willing to join our effort to force a vote. I am proud that the new Republican majority is already working to deliver on pro-life protections.”

H. Con. Res. 3 formally condemns the 78 documented cases of vandalism, violence, and destruction perpetrated against pro-life facilities, groups, and churches across the nation in the aftermath of the Dobbs decision last June.

Furthermore, this resolution affirms the critical role these entities play in supporting pregnant women and families and calls on the Biden administration to use “all appropriate law enforcement authorities to uphold public safety” and prevent further instances of political violence.

After voting for the resolution, Congressman Allen made the following statement:

“These attacks are truly sickening. We’re not just talking about graffiti here; we’re talking about churches being firebombed by left-wing radicals seeking to use violence toward political ends. I am proud that Republicans voted unanimously to pass this resolution to condemn the violence against pro-life facilities, groups, and churches.”
