ICYMI: Congressman Allen holds telephone town hall
Washington,
February 8, 2023
In case you missed it, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) held a telephone town hall earlier this week to answer questions from residents across Georgia’s 12th District. During the call, Congressman Allen provided an update on inflation, the southern border crisis, and legislation he has introduced so far in the 118th Congress. For those unable to participate in the call, here are some of the highlights: Cathy from Dublin asked about how Congress plans to combat inflation. Congressman Allen: “Prior to Covid-19, we had the greatest economy in the history of our lifetime…The reason for this was because we unleashed the economy and created unsurpassed supply that was able to easily meet demand. When President Biden was elected, it was no secret that he stated we would not drill for oil in this country and created a war on fossil fuel. That was the initial step that started the inflation problem.”
Phyllis from Washington asked about the southern border crisis. Congressman Allen: “We have already begun working on legislation to secure our border…Democrats believe in open borders and giving free health care to illegal immigrants. There have been 4.5 million illegal border crossings since President Biden took office. “I will be going to the border next week and we will be discussing fentanyl. Thousands of Americans have died as result of fentanyl. We are proposing legislation to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigrants crossing into our border. This administration is not enforcing the law of this land…and we are going to do everything in Congress and the courts to stop it.” John from Vidalia asked about American energy independence. Congressman Allen: “Energy in our nation is critical and allows us to deal more forcefully with our adversaries. I am all for creating sustainable oil, but this President does not want to use fossil fuel and bases all his energy decisions on climate. I want to create an all-energy policy. We have continued to inform the President of our concerns and he is well-aware of what we are trying to accomplish in the new majority.”
Congressman Allen: “We are going to keep the pool. I think people are starting to realize how critical that is to our economy. We have a lot of folks that draw water from that pool. Additionally, we have a lot of folks that want to establish manufacturing facilities that draw water out of that pool. It is critical that we maintain that pool level. By law, they have to maintain the pool level…for whatever reason, the Corps of Engineers have taken issue with this, so [South Carolina and the City of Augusta] filed a federal lawsuit against them. [They] won this lawsuit in a federal court in South Carolina, because this is important to both South Carolina and Georgia. [The Corps] has now appealed this decision and we are hoping that within the next 90 days that appeal will be heard. It would be very unusual for a judge to reverse that decision when the law is as clear as day.” David from Harlem asked about the 2nd Amendment and the ATF’s recent rule. Congressman Allen: “I am currently working on legislation right now that would end the ATF’s new stabilizing brace rule on guns. This legislation will be introduced in the coming weeks.”
Jeff from Evans asked about the Chinese surveillance balloon. Congressman Allen: “I don’t know why it wasn’t shot down the moment it crossed into our territory and why we allowed it to travel so far… We have Navy SEALs in the ocean collecting all the parts of the balloon and I hope that the president does an investigation into this. There are sanctions and other things we can do to make sure that this never happens again. “Frankly, I think the Chinese were testing this administration to see what they can get away with. I can guarantee you this, I would have shot the thing down before it ever got here.” To participate in future telephone town halls, visit www.allen.house.gov/live or click here to sign up. # # # |
