House Republicans Pass Pro-Law Enforcement Bills During National Police Week

In honor of National Police Week, House Republicans passed three pieces of legislation to express support for law enforcement officers and agencies nationwide. After voting in support of each measure, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) issued the following statement:

“I was proud to stand with our law enforcement officers nationwide this week as we passed legislation to honor the often-unsung heroes who keep our communities safe. The violent crime wave occurring in cities across the country was largely avoidable and is a direct result of Democrats’ shameful, defund the police rhetoric. Those who put their lives on the line for the safety of others should be praised and admired, not demonized. I am hopeful the passage of this week’s bills will serve as a constant reminder for the brave men and women in uniform that House Republicans will always back the blue.”

The bills passed this week include:

H.R. 2494, the POLICE Act: Makes the assault of a law enforcement officer a deportable offense if the individual entered the United States illegally

H.R. 3091, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act: Allows federal law enforcement officers to purchase retired service weapons

H. Con. Res. 40: Expresses support for local law enforcement officers and condemns efforts to defund or dismantle local law enforcement agencies
