Allen Statement on NLRB's Decision to Undermine American Workers' Privacy

Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) issued the following statement on the National Labor Relations Board's (NLRB) 3-1 decision to upend American workers' right to privacy in the union election process:

"House Democrats elect their own caucus leadership by secret ballot. House Democrats held up the USMCA trade deal to guarantee workers in Mexico have the right to a secret ballot. Yet today, the Biden Administration's radical NLRB appointees refused to afford American workers that same right. This level of hypocrisy is not lost on me, nor should it be lost on the American people.

"In light of this disastrous decision, it is more important now than ever for Congress to pass my Employee Rights Act (ERA), which would enhance employees’ rights by guaranteeing the vote to unionize a workplace is cast with a secret ballot. No American worker should have to worry about intimidation in the workplace and it is imperative we pass the ERA to provide essential protections for workers’ rights, choices, and freedoms in the 21st-century economy."

BACKGROUND: Congressional Democrats have been trying to undermine workers’ rights to privacy in the union election process for years now through their disastrous PRO Act, and today they got their wish as the NLRB voted to overturn the precedent that protects a workers’ right to decide union representation by a secret ballot vote. In April, Congressman Allen introduced the Employee Rights Act, which among other provisions, would amend the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) to guarantee workers' right to privacy and a secret ballot election when it comes to union representation
