Comer, Allen stop in Augusta to tout impeachment inquiry

House Committee on Oversight Chairman James Comer made a brief appearance in Augusta Monday with Congressman Rick Allen.

Comer was in Augusta for a luncheon, a staffer said. The appearance follows House Republicans’ vote last week to launch an impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden in an effort to connect the president to business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden and other family members.

Comer said on a Monday podcast with Sen. Ted Cruz that the oversight committee was going “on the road” to interview witnesses because targets were “trying to use the holiday as an excuse for why they can’t come in.”

Comer told reporters the inquiry was to determine if the president was compromised by family members’ business dealings.

“That’s what this investigation is about. Is Joe Biden compromised because of the millions of dollars his family received?” he said Monday at Goodwill’s Snelling Center.

On the podcast, Comer focused on Biden’s brother, James Biden, and checks written to him by rural hospital operator Americore Health, which was raised by the FBI in 2019. Comer said the money went from Americore to Jim Biden to Joe Biden.

Allen didn’t comment on the investigation, but said Comer has been “steadfast in his efforts to follow the facts and uncover evidence alluding to President Biden’s involvement in his son’s shady business dealings with foreign entities.”

The president has denied any connection to his son’s and brother’s business ventures, which some characterize as influence-peddling using the Biden name.

Hunter Biden was indicted earlier this month on nine tax charges, including filing a false return and tax evasion.
