Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) issued the following statement upon the news that the suspect in the death of Augusta University student Laken Riley was confirmed to be an illegal alien:

“At the hands of a violent illegal alien, we have lost yet another American life—a beloved daughter, student, and Georgian. We have learned more in these past few days about just how precious Laken was to her loved ones, and now she is gone. As a student at Augusta University’s nursing school, Laken was well on her way to a successful career helping others and saving countless lives—all to be cut brutally short by a vicious criminal. 

"President Biden and his administration’s complete disregard for the law and blatant refusal to secure the border undoubtedly led to this unfathomable tragedy and they must reverse course. Robin and I join our fellow Georgians and the nation in praying for Laken’s family and loved ones. She will not be forgotten."
