Yesterday, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) advanced H.R. 8812, the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024(WRDA), a biannual bill to address water issues and projects in the United States. The legislation advanced by the Committee included language to stop the Corps of Engineers' disastrous rock weir plan and clarify Congressional intent to maintain our pool level at 114.5 feet. Upon the Committee's passage, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) issued the following statement:
"I have worked for many years in Congress on this issue, and I was proud to partner with fellow Georgian and member of the T&I Committee, Representative Mike Collins, to include language in this year's Water Resources Development Act to halt the Corps of Engineers' disastrous rock weir plan dead in its tracks and clarify Congressional intent to maintain our pool level at 114.5 feet. The committee’s passage of H.R. 8812 is a monumental first step toward a permanent solution that works for job creators, municipalities, and most importantly, residents of the CSRA. I look forward to seeing this legislation considered on the House floor in short order."
NOTE: Earlier this year, Congressman Allen testified during the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Member Day Hearing, making the case for legislative language to be included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024 regarding the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam.
