Today, the House of Representatives passed S. Amdt. to H.R. 5009, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (NDAA).The NDAA authorizes annual funding levels for the U.S. Armed Forces and sets expenditures for the Department of Defense (DOD).
After supporting the bill on the House floor, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) issued the following statement:
"The importance of the NDAA cannot be overstated as it represents our commitment to the men and women in uniform and the safety of all Americans. Our adversaries have been repeatedly emboldened under the Biden-Harris Administration, and we must restore America's strength on the world stage. Period. Today's legislation does so, while also improving the quality of life for our brave servicemembers, deterring Communist China, combatting the border crisis, and eliminating wasteful, inefficient programs.
"I am also proud that this year's NDAA meets the needs of Georgia's 12th District. From a well-deserved pay raise for servicemembers and reduced health care wait times, to funding the critical missions being carried out at Fort Eisenhower and SRS, passage of today's legislation fulfills our duty to stand behind those who defend our freedoms at home and abroad."
Specifically, the Fiscal Year 2025 NDAA:
Funds the projects and critical missions being carried out at Fort Eisenhower
Supports and requires plutonium pit production at the Savannah River Site and Los Alamos National Laboratory
Includes funding for housing maintenance, oversight, and upgrades
Gives junior enlisted servicemembers a 14.5 percent raise and supports a 4.5 percent raise for all other servicemembers
Reduces health care wait times and improves access to childcare
Better supports employment for military spouses
Supports the deployment of National Guard to the southern border to combat the influx of illegal immigrants and drugs
Deters China and prevents CCP espionage in our research institutions, supply chains, and armed forces
Permanently bans TRICARE coverage of dangerous transgender medical care for minors
Supports Israel and counters antisemitism by banning the sale and exchange of goods at DOD commissaries that have or are currently boycotting Israel
Guts DEI and cuts Critical Race Theory
