Congressman Rick Allen read to students at Blakeney Elementary School in recognition of “National March Into Literacy Month” Thursday, April 17. Allen introduced a resolution in February 2025 expressing support for designating March 2025 “National March Into Literacy Month” and issued a statement conveying his commitment to promoting education: “Studies show that children who are not reading proficiently by the third grade are four times less likely to graduate from high school on time. This highlights the necessity of intervening early in a child’s life and instilling a love and passion for reading. As a grandfather and a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I have long prioritized childhood literacy efforts in Congress. I am honored to introduce this resolution recognizing March 2025 as ‘National March into Literacy Month’ and reaffirm my commitment to ensuring the American Dream is accessible for all children.” Although the event was originally scheduled to align with the March initiative, Allen upheld his commitment to encouraging literacy even after the month had passed. Allen read a book to the class of 5thgraders, spoke to them about the importance of working hard in school and answered their questions about his role as a congressman. |
