The House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) today. The NDAA is an annual defense bill that authorizes defense spending and sets priorities for the U.S. military. This year’s NDAA will begin to rebuild America’s military after years of underfunding. Congressman Rick Allen (R-GA-12) released the following statement:

“As a member of Congress, one of the most important votes I cast each year is for the NDAA. I am proud to support this critical legislation that reaffirms our commitment to the hardworking men and women who serve our country and authorizes essential funding for national security.

“Equipping our armed forces with the tools to build a military of the 21^st Century is vital to modern warfare. This bill bolsters cyber operation funding, authorizing $8 billion dollars – an increase of $1.7 billion from Fiscal Year 2017. Our district is at the forefront of cyber innovation with the U.S. Army Cyber Command’s move to Fort Gordon.  I was proud to vote for over $85 million in military construction projects and Army family housing to be spent on base.

“It is Congress’ constitutional obligation to provide for the common defense and with today’s passage of the FY18 NDAA, I believe that we have met our obligation to keep America safe and close the critical readiness gap. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to quickly take up this crucial bill.”

Today Congressman Allen voted to:

• Provide a well-deserved 2.4% pay raise for our troops.
• Authorize $85 million for military construction projects at Fort Gordon, including Army Family Housing.
• Fully fund cyber operations.
• Authorize $1.3 billion for the Savannah River Site.
• Authorize $340 million for continued construction of the MOX facility.
