Allen Applauds USDA for Revising Peanut Grading Rule

Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-GA-12) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service finalized a rule to revise the minimum quality and handling standards for domestic and imported peanuts marketed in the United States:

“Peanuts are one of the top commodities produced here in Georgia-12, and as I travelled the district for my Farm Tour in September, one of the main refrains I heard from our peanut farmers is how critical it is to get this rule change finalized.  With the unpredictable weather patterns over the past few years, I know many folks have struggled with their peanut crops. These changes will greatly reduce the burden on peanut growers in my district and across the country. It is crucial that we continue adapting and making the necessary changes at the federal level to keep up with the technological advancements we are seeing in the industry. I thank the Department of Agriculture for finalizing this important rule for our peanut farmers.”

The rule was proposed earlier this year.
