Rep. Rick Allen Tours Plant Vogtle

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) released the following statement after a recent visit to see the construction of Units 3 and 4 at Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, Georgia.

“I am so pleased to see the great strides being made on Units 3 and 4 here at Plant Vogtle. We have thousands of dedicated workers helping to construct two of the first new nuclear reactors in decades—and after touring the plant and seeing firsthand the vast progress being made on Units 3 and 4, there is no doubt in my mind that America will continue to be a dominant player in the global nuclear industry.”

Background: After Westinghouse declared bankruptcy more than a year ago, Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power, and Dalton Utilities made the decision to move forward with construction of two new nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle, located in Georgia’s 12th Congressional district. Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is now overseeing construction. Additionally, earlier in the year, Congress, with Congressman Allen’s support, extended the Nuclear Production Tax Credit, an important provision to the future of new nuclear.
