this week serving georgia's 12th district...

We celebrated National Agriculture Week – and I took to the House floor to thank all of our farmers and ranchers in Georgia-12 and nationwide who work hard every day to feed and clothe this great nation and the world!

I know many of our farmers across Georgia are hurting from the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Michael. Rest assured, I am doing all I can to ensure that you receive necessary and adequate financial assistance ahead of the upcoming planting season, and I am confident that my Senate colleagues are working to get this done as well. We stand with you.

I held a telephone town hall on Tuesday to answer some questions from Georgia-12 constituents and give an update on a variety of issues.

Telephone town halls are a great way to stay up-to-date on my work on behalf of the 12th district. If you would like to sign up for future telephone town halls, please visit my website at allen.house.gov.

The House Education and Labor Committee held its first higher education hearing on “The Cost of College: Student Centered Reforms to Bring Higher Education Within Reach.”

I will continue to work with my colleagues to empower students and families to make informed decisions, simplify and improve student aid, promote innovation, access, and completion, and ensure strong accountability with a limited federal role.

Although I am not a member of the Civil Rights and Human Services Subcommittee – under the jurisdiction of the House Education and Labor Committee – I was grateful to introduce Donna Martin as a witness for the subcommittee hearing on “Examining Federal Child Nutrition Programs.”

Donna is a Georgia-12 native and Director of School Nutrition Programs for Burke County Public Schools! Thank you for your testimony.

I also spoke at the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education Policy Forum where I gave an update on the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act, workforce development, and the importance of filling the over seven million available jobs we have in our country.

I am very grateful for the work that these great folks do on behalf of Georgia schools and students!

I had meetings with Lola’s Organic Farm, Southern Cotton Growers, American Society of Civil Engineers, and many others.

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me!

I was very pleased to announce the 2019 Congressional Art Competition. This is a great opportunity to highlight the creativity and artistic talents of high school students in Georgia-12.

March Community Office Hours are coming to a close next week. My staff will be available in Appling, Tattnall, and Evans counties on March 20th to assist anyone having issues with a federal agency.

I am pleased to offer this opportunity for my office to provide constituents direct assistance closer to home. Stay on the lookout for announcements about future Community Office Hours dates, times, and locations.

I traveled to Dublin to attend the Saint Patrick’s Day Joint Civic Club Lunch.

Saint Patrick’s Day is quite the tradition in Dublin, and I was happy to take part!

With tax season upon us, I will also be hosting a briefing on Georgia Free File next week in Augusta.

Please check my website for additional information on how you could potentially file your taxes for free!

This week, I would like to highlight H.R. 1339, the Mass Violence Prevention Act, sponsored by my friend and fellow Georgian, Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-09).

This legislation will prevent further mass violence and improve law enforcement coordination and response efforts without infringing on our Second Amendment Rights. By reducing the flow of firearms into the black market and giving local law enforcement additional resources to prevent and deter firearm violence, I believe H.R. 1339 takes an effective approach to addressing the root causes behind mass violence.

As a proud cosponsor, I am hopeful that this legislation is considered on the House floor in the near future!

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒  HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram

Sincerely,
